민원내용 This message is in response to the answer I received: 접수번호: 20241205161427001, as there was an obvious misunderstanding considering the comment I received.

In the case of alphabet tracing, we understand that there isn't a single fixed standard. Both the YBM Kim Hye-ri textbook and the Choi Hee-kyung textbook include tracing in the same format as above."
That is simply untrue. There is a fixed standard for how to write the English Alphabet. There is the correct way, and there is the incorrect way. Students learn to write the letter "c "first, then the letter "o", then "a", and then the letter "d"...they all follow the same rule. For the letter "d" it is "c-start, touch, up, down". It is not taught in the order of the alphabet: a-z. Why do you wish to promote the incorrect stroke order?

Secondly, the entire textbook is lacking "ruled-lines". Do you understand what is meant by that? We don't write English, like Korean...letters don't float, like Korean, but the letters in English are anchored to the base line. The four lines are called: the capital line, the waist line, the tail line and the base line.

In this new AI textbook, in many of the writing activities the four lines are completely absent. Instead, one single line is the only thing that is being provided, which is not in keeping with educational standards, as our students are learning how to write and should be provided with the ruled-lines whenever there is a writing activity.

The response given: "The blank spaces are intentional for the purpose of the activity." Again, why? Why provide only the base line? Why aren't you fixing the errors from the previous textbooks and providing all four ruled lines, so the students can be better guided to write correctly?

I look forward to your response.

In the new YBM Kim Hye-ri AI online contents, the stroke order for lowercase d is incorrect.

It should be a "c-start, touch, up, down".

In the textbook, the ruled-lines are missing from the writing practice.

답변내용 Dear, Mr. Lund

Thank you for sharing your opinions.

First, regarding the writing order of the alphabet. Are you suggesting that students should learn to write the alphabet not by starting with the letters A, B, and C but instead by starting with the letters C, O, A, and D?

Plus, about the writing order of the letter d.

I’ve looked at other 2022 Revised Curriculum elementary English textbooks for Grade 3 of “d” how they described to write its order. There are eight books (five companies) that passed for Grade 3 and 4 English textbooks for 2022 curriculum review by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation. We have 6 of those books, and altogether, they show the same way to write the lowercase “d.” I also assume the two other textbooks use the same way with us. Have you told the other companies as well? If you think YBM needs to change, then we are not the only ones with a problem.

Second, the ruled lines. There is the corner to write the letters Aa to Hh in that order and with four lines on pages 12 and 13 in our book. We also provide the teachers with worksheets with ruled lines. This means the students will practice writing those letters in the textbooks as well as on the worksheets. I assume they will also write them in their own notebooks. Therefore, we figured the students would write both with the four lines and with blanks because it’s important for them to have various experiences.

Thank you.

Im Younghae
